Mediation:

Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution. This means that mediation is used as an alternative to trial and litigation. Mediation is confidential and seeks to help parties come to a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Pete Stokes is a Rule 31 Mediator, approved by the Tennessee Supreme Court to practice mediation. As a Rule 31 Mediator, he has the appropriate experience and training to mediate your disputes.

What can you expect in mediation?

  • You, as a party to your case, get to make the decisions about the outcome.

  • The parties can make more specific agreements tailored to the specifics of their case.

  • It is a non-confrontational atmosphere in which to resolve disputes.

  • Mediation is informal.

  • All issues can be addressed.

  • There is no designated time requirement.

  • The mediator has no stake in the outcome.

  • The process is the same for both parties.

  • Both parties can have attorneys present.

  • Statements and negotiations made in mediation cannot be used in court.

  • Mediation is completely voluntary, and either party may leave at any time.

  • An agreement does not have to be reached.
